BESS – Taking the Power Back… Sustainably!
When our Genset specialist, Ben Jenkinson, began looking at more environmentally-friendly and economical solutions to keep businesses powered, he didn’t realise his journey would result in the launch of DEUTZ Australia’s first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
DEUTZ’s first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) delivers a reliable and effective power solution for mining communities while also supporting the environment.

Ben and the experts at DEUTZ Australia began designing and building BESS more than a year ago. It’s been a labour of love and has involved some rigorous research, some clever thinking and development, and a lot of detailed testing.
The end result is a reliable and durable solution that maximises renewable energy utilisation without being limited by harsh weather conditions or power grid limitations. The BESS also enables any excess energy to be stored for later use.
Ideal for a range of industries and operations, from mining and farming to commercial buildings and remote off-grid locations, we think the BESS is going to change the way businesses power up.
Ben is passionate about supporting the environment and finding reliable and effective power solutions. Developing BESS has been challenging and rewarding for Ben and the DEUTZ Australia team but it has been worth the blood, sweat and tears.
“I’m driven by a passion for power solutions, especially off-grid solutions,” says Ben.
“Knowing that current technologies impact the environment inspired me to work with the Technical Support team at DEUTZ to develop our latest product, the DEUTZ Battery Energy Storage System. It’s been carefully designed and developed to harness the power of renewable energy and reduce the carbon footprint.”
Ben believes the BESS can benefit cornerstone Australian industries that are prone to blackouts and power outages at times of the year when temperatures soar or when storms bring down main transmission lines and create chaos.
BESS isn’t just better for the environment compared to other traditional off-grid power solutions – it’s a smart financial move. Over its lifespan, it significantly cut running costs.
For example, an off-grid homestead in Northern Australia is projected to save approximately $517,000* by using our complete power solution, featuring a DEUTZ DBS45/105 BESS, DEUTZ DPS62DB companion genset and solar panels, compared to relying solely on diesel generators to power the site.

With those kinds of scenarios in mind, BESS has been based on innovative engineering solutions, extensive testing and validation, close collaboration with DEUTZ Australia’s valued partners and customers, and continuous refinement based on feedback and real-world performance data.

The key features of BESS include:
- Modular design for scalability
- Advanced monitoring and control capabilities
- Seamless integration with new or existing renewable energy sources, e.g solar panels
- Plug and play design allows the unit to be transported and installed by a qualified electrician.
- Compact and weather-resistant canopy
- BESS battery recycling program – when you order a new battery set, DEUTZ takes your old battery for recycling.
So, if you’re looking for a reliable, cost-effective solution to enhance your business’ or mining site’s energy efficiency, provide reliable backup power, reduce carbon emissions, improve overall system performance, boost energy independence and cut back on power costs –DEUTZ Australia’s BESS might be what you are looking for.
