When a long-term client in the mining industry contacted Euro Diesel Services looking for reliable and powerful engines to run two bore pumps, the WA-based business put in a call to DEUTZ Australia headquarters in Melbourne.
Euro Diesel Services has had a long working relationship with the team at DEUTZ Australia and Trevor Brougham knew exactly what engines would be best suited to the job.
“The client was using another engine in the two borers that used older technology. They decided they needed a more modern engine with a bit more power and with a better emissions rating, too. It was up to us to come up with an engine to suit their needs and specific application,” explains Trevor.
“The bore pumps are used in mine sites to keep control of the water level and to keep the water table down. They’re used in quite harsh conditions, so we knew we needed to commission engines that were robust and very reliable.”
Trevor spoke to the team at DEUTZ Australia, outlining his client’s requirements and decided the DEUTZ TD 2.2 L3 Power Pack was best suited to the job.
The turnkey engine package has been designed locally and specifically for Australian and New Zealand market conditions. It suits a range of heavy-duty applications including pumps, woodchippers, stationary equipment, agricultural machinery and construction machinery.
After the engine was selected, drawings were shared to ensure the engine complied with the allocated space in the bore pumps. Trevor says the process was ‘straightforward’.
“The client chose what start panel they wanted and then DEUTZ set up the control panel and electronics, did a test run and it only took two weeks from the time we placed the order for the engines to arrive here in WA,” says Trevor.
“It was a very smooth project and the borers have been working since February this year and recent client feedback has been very good. There have been no issues with the engine – no teething problems at all. They’ve performed just as we said they would.”
This recent project is the latest in a long history of collaboration between DEUTZ Australia and Euro Diesel Services. The WA business services clients in a range of industries including mining, farming and construction.
It has been connected to DEUTZ Australia for at least 28 years and since he took over the business in 2022, Trevor has maintained that working relationship.
“It’s the quality of the product – the German engineering is top-shelf – and the DEUTZ product range has grown significantly over the years. Their engines are now found in so many industries,” says Trevor.
“Plus, the team are good to deal with and the service is always reliable. There is always plenty of support in an instant, whenever we need it.”
After delivering exactly what his client needed, Trevor says that client is now considering developing a new bore pump which he believes will also be powered by a DEUTZ engine.
“When you get an engine into a machine and it does what it should, then the client is happy and usually comes back,” says Trevor.
