German precision comes naturally for Jens Raschke, who was born in Germany and works for DEUTZ Australia in Melbourne.
Jens is from a town called Altena, near Dortmund. Apart from immediate family, most of his relatives are still in Germany.
“I haven’t been back for a while now, about seven years, but used to get back about every three years for holidays,” he says. “I’m hoping to take the kids over when they are a little older”.
A qualified diesel mechanic, Jens brought extensive industry experience with him when he joined DEUTZ in early 2018.
He had two stints in spare parts with DEUTZ Australia dealer LK Diesel Service Pty Ltd and travelled Australia repairing large marine engines and container ships with CJA Marine Technology.
At DEUTZ, Jens provides technical service and product support to the sales department/workshop, dealers, OEMs and end users. He resolves any technical issues they may have, helps with engine selection and ensures that what they require works.
This can involve phone calls, emails about issues OEMs need to resolve, providing engine solutions for dealers, offering technical advice to the workshop and sourcing parts for suppliers’ new engine products.
“There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ day,” Jens says. “ It varies every single day. I’m pretty sure my desk is a time vortex as I look at the clock and the day has gone!”
Jens loves dealing with people. “It’s an amazing place to work,” he says. “The culture is so positive and professional and the group I work with makes coming to work fun,” he says
Jens’ family moved to Australia when he was three and he has lived in Melbourne since. On weekends, he loves spending time with his family, including his five-year-old son and 16-month-old daughter.
They enjoy going out for Sunday breakfast, visiting the grandparents in Lancefield and Dromana, and making the most of their Zoos Victoria memberships. “My son loves the Werribee Open Range Zoo,” Jens says. “He’s mad on giraffes”.
“They grow up so quickly and I want to spend as much time with them as I can. I want to get back into the golf though! I do love watching footy and soccer too.”
Jens is always on the go and his wife jokes that he has undiagnosed mild OCD. “But as I tell her, it helps get stuff done around the house!” he says.
