Ground West Equipment in Perth is only two-years-old, but the mining and construction machinery supplier has already built a reputation for being able to deliver the right piece of equipment at the right time.
Andrew Holdsworth is one of three directors of GWE which is a dealer for Wacker Neuson equipment. The business supplies machinery including excavators, loaders, telehandlers, pumps, vibratory plates and dumpers.
Andrew is also a co-founder of Source My Parts that provides genuine and OEM replacement spare parts to the mining, agriculture and civil construction industries.
“Source My Parts has been successful because we are very customer-focused. When providing a service, we understand the importance of supporting a customer’s that product and supplying the right part. We are taking this same approach with Ground West Equipment – helping our customers to support their machines,” he says.
Last year, GWE became an authorised DEUTZ dealer. The business is very familiar with DEUTZ products having started life as, predominantly, a Wacker Neuson dealer. Many of the larger Wacker Neuson machines run with DEUTZ engines.
“Becoming a DEUTZ dealer has given us more scope and range in terms of industries we can work with,” explains Andrew.
“For example, we’ve just won a contract to supply custom gensets with DEUTZ engines in them to one of the big rail freight companies in WA. We’ve never worked in the rail area before but whether we are working in rail, underground mining or farming, our principles are the same.
“The gensets will be powered by DEUTZ engines and placed in a freight train travelling between Perth and Adelaide to power the air conditioning, lights and fridges in the crib room for the staff.
There isn’t a lot of space underneath the trains so we partnered with one of DEUTZ’s OEM customers, Remote Energy, who could customise the gensets to fit. DEUTZ engines are powering those gensets and we will maintain them with genuine DEUTZ parts and DEUTZ’s technical experience.”
Andrew says partnering with DEUTZ gives GWE greater versatility as well as even greater access to the company’s technical product knowledge and insights. Two GWE mechanics have already travelled to Melbourne from Perth to undergo intensive training at DEUTZ’s head office in Dandenong.
“The lines of communication are open between GWE and DEUTZ. I know I can reach Ben Jenkinson at DEUTZ Power Solutions with any concerns or needs and the help will be there. For example, with the latest rail opportunity we reached out to Ben and he chatted to different OEMs and found Remote Energy to help us,” says Andrew.
Andrew says there are exciting times ahead for GWE as the business grows and expands into new industries.
“Who knows what GWE will achieve in the next five years, driven by the strength of DEUTZ and our supplier network,” he says.
“We will continue to stay customer-focused and to provide the best service. DEUTZ is a reputable company with a great reputation and we’ll bring our strengths to complement that.”
